In conclusion, weaponizing Disney’s image against them and forcing them to spend more money and recovering their image proved to be an extremely effective strategy. Using the media to bring national attention to the issue also proved to be extremely effective. While it is difficult and not always possible for small towns and historic sites to protect themselves against redevelopment by large corporations, along with the fact that, as this example shows, good financial and governmental connections are usually needed, this example shows examples of strategies that have been and can be effectively used by grassroots groups and preservationists to preserve historic towns and sites.
